Nellya Fencers

Nellya Fencers trains some of the best fencers in the world right here in Atlanta. Founded in 1990 by Maestro Arkady Burdan, U.S. Olympic Coach, the club has produced World Champions, Olympians and National Champions in every age group. Our fencers have won NCAA Championships and been named All-American at top colleges and universities.

Our beginner classes allow even the youngest fencer to dream of achievement at the highest level of our sport.  Our program develops athletes to their fullest potential. Our gifted and inspiring coaches guide their students with discipline, imagination, and respect for each athlete’s individual abilities.

About the Club

At Nellya Fencers, we are serious about developing world-class fencers. Competitive Start Program (CSP) fencers prepare to compete in US Fencing Association National competitions starting at the Youth 10 level. CSP focuses on goals and high achievement.

Our Coaches

terrance-laskerTerrence Lasker trained with one of the greatest saber fencers in the world, Vladimir Nazlymov (now head coach at The Ohio State University). He is a 5-time national champion, 4-time member of the U.S. National Team and was first alternate for the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team in 1996. Lasker was the assistant fencing coach at Ohio State from 2003-2008 and joined Nellya Fencers in 2008.

 

 

 

david-douvilleDavid Douville began fencing at age 7. He has the distinct qualification of training with Maestro Burdan for his entire fencing life. He is steeped in the tradition and language of the Burdan method. He was a top-ranked junior international fencer and is a 2-time Junior Olympic Champion. Closer to home, he was a critically important training partner for Sada and Emily Jacobson as they prepared for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. He has continued his fencing career as a coach under the guidance of Maestro Burdan.

2015 Camps
Summer camps are the coolest way to try a hot sport in our air-conditioned state-of-the-art gym. You will get a healthy workout while you learn footwork, strategy and bouting. You will even get to compete in a real tournament. Our coaches teach all the basics. All sessions are one week. Sign up for a second session if you love it.
