USA Fencing recently announced the 2016-17 Regional Recognition Patch Winners for cadet and junior fencers, who had participated in the Regional  Junior/Cadet Circuit (RJCC). Winners are listed in the accompanying file at the end of the post. The Regional Recognition Program, which has been operating for several years, is designed to recognize and reward accomplishments at the Regional Tournament level within the six regions outlined below.

Fencers who placed in the top three within their region were awarded a regional patch to distinguish their success for this 2016-2017 season. The RJCC events also serve as a qualifying path to the Junior Olympic Championships and July Challenge. A percentage of athletes qualify from each region for these events.

Two-hundred and twenty-five (225)  patches were awarded to 185 individual fencers from 101 USA Fencing clubs during 2016-2017.  About 15% of clubs had members who received patches during the year but this ranged from a high of 33% in Region 1, to a low of 9% in Region 3 as illustrated in the following table.
