Ranking of U.S. Fencers in the European Cadet Circuit 9-14-2017

Posted · Add Comment

With the fencing season’s first Designated Cadet International competition set for Konin, Poland (Cadet Men’s and Women’s Saber – 9/23/17 – 9/24/17), we thought readers might be interested in the current ranking of USFA fencers in the prestigious European Cadet Circuit. Designated competitions are those selected by the National Coach of each weapon and reviewed by the USFA Sports Performance and Development Director, as competitions that are most suited to the goals of the weapon program in developing world-class fencers. Designated international competitions are generally categorized as Group II competitions in the formula for computing points for the National Rolling and Team Point Standings.

Points gained at Designated Cadet International competitions play an important role in the selection of the Cadet World Championship Team. The top three athletes on the National Cadet Team Point Standings at the conclusion of the Junior Olympics in Memphis, TN in February 2018, will be selected as members of the Cadet World Championship Team. The fencers will be eligible to compete in the individual competition at the World Cadet & Junior Championships in Verona, Italy in April 2018.

All gender-weapon categories have three designated events except for Cadet Men’s Foil, which has four events. The current rankings reflect points gained during the 2016-2017 fencing season in Europe. These points will not have an impact on the final selection of the team for 2017-2018 because only points gained during 2017-2018 will count for selection.

Schedule of Designated Cadet International Events 2017-2018

The following table provides the schedule of USA Fencing Designated Cadet International Events for the 2017-2018 fencing season. Scroll over the timeline to highlight details about the designated events. Use the right-hand roll bar to see additional events.

Entries are accepted online through USFA’s Tournament Browser by the entry deadline for each international competition.
